First experiment 

All these pictures show me preparing to press print. 

This is how my press printing turned out.

I rolled ink over the stencils I made and then pressed them onto some A4 paper.

This picture shows i have scanned my character into photoshop then changed the colour of it in photoshop.

Inital ideas

These pictures are my first ideas of what I want all 5 of my characters to look like.

This character is quite a messy character and thats the message I tried to get across when designing him.

This character is the smartest of the friends.

These two characters are really different to each other, the one on the left is very normal and really quiet and the other on the right is really loud and just a silly person.

This character is the only girl on the group of friends and I have tried to make her like a normal girl and have that girly side showing but also show she likes to do what the boys like to do too.

This is a picture of all four of the boys together as one and as you can see they are all different.

Case study

Form

The form of this childrens book, the colour scheme is very colourful and eye catchin and i think the reason the authour has used very bright colours is because he is anting to catch the attentions of the public making them see it on a shelf and also making the public want the buy the book, also another factor of using brigt colours is it gives off the impression that the book has a very happy glow to it and this gives of a good effect for the sales of the book. The set out of the whole cover is great and I say this is the author has drawn everything really big so it all stands out but also he has everthing spread out so it doesnt all look clustred and this gives a lasting effect to the public.

Content and context

The content and context and this cover work very well together and the reason I say this is because the title is called spot and that is the name of th dog too and also the dog also has a spot on him and that gives off the clue of who the book is about before youve even opened the book. With doin this the public get a good idea of the book before getting the book of the shelf and it realy just gives off a really good first impression and the authors work gets good impressions straight away then the book sales will go through the roof.

Personal response

My personal response to this book when I first saw the cover was like, wow that book is so simple but so effective at the same time and it was drawing me in the wanting to open it up and read it, the thing tat impressed me was the way the author managed to draw the title in picture form and what I mean by that is it says (spot) so he has a picture of spot but then also he has birthday in the title and the way to show that is he has drawn a picture of a birthday balloon and with those two pictures it really sums up the title really simply in picture form and this is great for children to uderstand,

Process

With this childrens book cover the creator has used simple lines to draw his cover and by using simple lines it gives off a really good effect because he is getting his message over to the public of what the book is about with very simple drawings.

Form

The form of this childrens book is, the layout is a bit cluttered and the reason I say this is because the title of the book is very big and it takes up a good 1/4 of the cover and then the authors has put a massive tree onto thecover two and so it leaves less room for everything else on the page. The authour has also put 24 heads on the cover all different sizes but there really isnt enough room for all of this on the cover so it makes it look frally cluttured. The colour scheme the authour has used is very good because she has used a very darkish yellow and then put a brighter blue on top for the trees leaves and this makes the book stand out but then to top it all off she uses red, whites and blacks for clothes and hair colours of all the heads and the boys clothes on the cover and this make the whole cover stand out very well to the publc and it will catch anyones eyes when its on a shops shelf.


Content and context

This books title and picture works really well together and the reason I say this is because the title is (THE KIDS FAMILY TREE BOOK) and the authour as taking this into consideration and she has producted a good image that sends the books title out to everyone, she has an image that has a boy climbing his family tree and that is what the title is about a family tree.

Personal response

My person response to this cover was quite a mixed one really because I thought is was very eye catching with all the the different colours she has used and also the way you can see she has put loads of time into making the front cover with all the different techniques she has used. But the thing that brings the cover down for me is how over crowded it looks really and the way this could be changed is if the title was a bit smalled and if all the heads where made smaller and the all the same size then e cover would be very perfect in all the ways you would want a cover to be perfect for a childrens book.

Process

The process this authour has used on her cover are a few different ones,one of them is screen printing of the leaves and this gives off  really nice effect of leaves, the the rest of the cover is just normal line dawing where she has gone over the pencil drawings in Ink and then coloured them in and his also gives off a nice effect. So the whole process of the cover is great and attractive with all the different techniques she has used on the front cover.
