Evaluation

In the brief we was told to choose a form and a subject we wanted to do our final piece on and after we had choose they we had to do a bit of research on the subject matter and form and find a good way about making the final piece and preparing to build up to the final piece with preparation. After I heard what we had to do I started looked at book covers on the internet and then after looking I came up with some ideas. I came up with a space, a underwater and a arcutexture idea to work with. And with all these chooices it meant I could use the one I thought I could push the futhest in terms of ideas/designs, so this gave me more room to work into.

This picture shows some of the ideas and forms I came up with to base and make my final piece on.

I choose brian biggs because hes got a very simple but effective way of drawing because his characters and vehicles are very good and detailed but if you look carefully you will see its just a very simple style of drawing and I like it because of how effective it is, so this is why I choose his Artist/designer. I based my characters on Brain biggs design because a really admire his work and simple but effective design. The things I have learnt from looking at Brain biggs work is to draw in a very simple but effective style of drawwing characters, I really like this because you can experiment more with the style he uses.
This picture shows some of Brain Biggs work.

On the front cover I did quite a few different experimentations for example I tried doing some polyprint characters but I didnt like that style, so next I used watercolour and I didnt think that looked good either. So I kept to used and colouring in photoshop and it looked really good and effective. The risks I took with cover for the childrens book was I didnt come up with a background idea until the very last minuet because I consontrated on making the characters and layout look really good and completly forgot the background. The way I developed my idea was a try and error way, where I tried loads of different designs, text, pictures and put them togther to see what it looked like then tried it a different way and I kept doing this until I thought I found they one that looked the best, so doing all this took some time and effort to get right. Also another way I developed my ideas was I just kept drawwing different things that could go on the cover if it looked right and by doing this it gave me a wider choice of what I could put on my front cover and back cover. Which the photoshop process and the drawing process the only limitations I had was I could only draw things and put them on using the scanner because if I drew something and took a picture of it and put it on the cover it would not look good because I wouldnt be able to take to picture in photoshop where as if I scan the drawwing in then I can take it apart and play with it in photoshop to make it look better and give it a really nice effect. And that was the only limit I had really because photoshop lets you do a lot of things with drawwings and making stuff.

My characters took a lot of working on over the time we was given, the reason these needed refining was they looked too like Brain biggs characters which I based my characters on so I needed to make them my own and the way I did this was I came up with lots of different hair styles and clothing for the characters and then choose my favorite ones and then worked with these to make them suit the character that was wearing them, like the afro for one of my characters it worked really well and looks really good because the way ive made that character small but with a massive afro to make him stand out. The reason I thought my characters needed more work is because they looked to like Brain biggs work and I didnt want them to be like that I wanted them to be my own work with a hint of Brains work in my work because for one its unfair to try and take someone elses designs and two it wouldnt really be my work, so I wanted something of my own which I think I achieved. To develope my ideas for the characters I just drew five simple characters and then by the sides of them I drew little characteristics that could go with them and also I drew different hair styles, clothes, shoes and compared them all to see which one looked the best and suited them.

The link between the artist (Brain biggs) and my final piece is, they both have a similar style of drawing with simple lines but also making them look really affective and you can see my work and Brain biggs work are very similar if you put them next to one and other. The things that went well with the whole project was I had my idea sorted nearly straight away so that gave me a boost to get thinking what I could put of the book and what would work and also another thing that went well was I  could swap and change things around on the cover without changing my whole idea or starting from scratch. The things I struggled with was getting a background sorted for my book because when I thought I had finished I relised I had a massive white background that didnt look very good so I had to come up with a idea to fill that white background in and this meant I had to change the layout of the whole book in the last day of the exam but I managed to get it done and get things looking good. The things I would change would be the subject I did my book on because I didnt really know to much about any of the subjects we had to choose from, so next time if it was there I would have choose football because I know a fair bit about football and could use that to my full ability. My final piece has been influenced by Brain biggs in the way I have made my charcters with all the simple drawwings put together to make one attractive piece of work that draws people in and would make people think wow and want to buy it.
